At today's Extraordinary UEFA Congress in Athens, Slovenian Football Federation president Aleksander Čeferin was elected as the seventh UEFA president in its history.

In Athens, at 12th Extraordinary UEFA Congress, 48-year-old Slovenian Football Federation president Aleksander Čeferin was elected as the new UEFA president by 55 member associations. Former president Michel Platini resigned in May, due to four-year FIFA suspension.

Croatian Football Federation was represented by president Davor Šuker, also a UEFA Executive Committee member, executive director Damir Vrbanović, and Ivančica Sudac, HNS Head of International Affairs and Licensing.

Čeferin won the elections straightforwardly, with 42 votes, while Michael van Praag received 13. The new UEFA president was born in Ljubljana on 13 October 1967, and graduated from Slovenia's capital law school. He served as Slovenian Football Federation from 2011. 

UEFA also elected its female representative at FIFA Council - Evelina Christillin.
