Dejan Lovren to Liverpool: "Liverpool is more than a club"

Croatian international Dejan Lovren completed his transfer to Liverpool FC from Southampton.

On Sunday night, Liverpool finally confirmed the signature of defender Dejan Lovren, after passing his medical. Lovren is the third player to switch to Liverpool from Southampton this summer, following the footsteps of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

The Croatian international will join his teammates in the USA, with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers happy to have him in his squad.

"This is a very important signing for us and I'm delighted it's completed so Dejan can join up with us on our US tour. He is a commanding and powerful presence and clearly has leadership skills, which is important; he fits the profile of player we are looking for. He is still relatively young, so his peak years are ahead of him and I believe he will improve and progress even further with us. I'm looking forward to him arriving and working with us as we continue our preparations for the new season", said Rodgers to Liverpoolfc.com.

The 25-year-old started his career with Dinamo Zagreb and Inter Zaprešić, leaving in 2010 for Ligue 1 and Olympique Lyon, where he spent three seasons before joining Southampton in 2013. Liverpool is now a new challenge.

"It's a dream come true. I'm happy and glad to be here, I'm proud and can't wait to start. I'm most looking forward to Anfield, of course. I played there last season in front of the crowd singing You'll Never Walk Alone. That is something very special for every player, every sportsman and every fan. I can't wait to get started. I know we have millions and millions of supporters - Liverpool is more than a club. I'm a player that will give 100 per cent and I want to show that to the supporters because they deserve to see players who give 100 per cent", said Dejan Lovren in his first interview as a Liverpool player.
